Crunching numbers
It takes:
- 1 person to trip up a blind man and dislocate his elbow, 3 doctors to relocate it.
- 1 lighted cigarette to cause a fire , 4 skin graft operations to restore the smoker's appearance.
- 10 seconds to mug an elderly lady and break her hip, 3 months for her to walk again.
- 4 pints of lager to cause a road traffic accident, 6 pints of blood to resuscitate the driver of the other vehicle.
- 1 instance of unprotected sex, 1 lifetime of pelvic pain and subfertility.

What's that last one about? Some kind of botched abortion, or an STD?
ketsugi: STD. It's amazing what chlamydia can do to a woman. Worst thing is, men can carry chlamydia and be asymptomatic so they can go for years spreading their germs and never be treated.
You've got there in 1 post some real good copy for a have-a-conscience ad, a no-smoking ad, an anti-crime ad, a drink-don't-drive ad, and a safe-sex ad!
ampulets: There are good reasons for those ads, I tell you. Public education rocks. The more patients I see in A&E, the more I think most of them would have benefitted from those 'Civic Consciousness' classes in that everyone in Singapore makes fun of.
Sadly, the moment you start preaching to people (whether in Civics class or via propagandistic posters like those anti-smoking ones in Singapore), they tend to ignore all the excellent advice and go right out and do whatever they've been told not to do. It's funny how humans are built with such little instinct for survival.
